City Of Vaughan Celebrates Success Of Second Annual Toy Drive
Mayor Maurizio Bevilacqua and Members of Council are thanking residents, local businesses, schools and City staff for donating toys to the CP24 CHUM Christmas Wish 2011 program.
“I am overjoyed by the outpouring of community support for our second annual toy drive,” said Mayor Bevilacqua. “We have surpassed our goal of 5,000 toys. I want to thank everyone for becoming involved and helping to put smiles on the faces of so many children on Christmas Day. We are fortunate to live in a City where generosity and compassion are demonstrated on a daily basis and people understand the need to come together to help those who need it most.”
The toy drive began with an official launch on Tuesday, November 15, 2011 at St. John Bosco Catholic Elementary School and ended on December 14, 2011. Local schools, residents and businesses were invited to take part by dropping off new, unwrapped toys for children aged newborn to 18 years-of-age at any one of several locations across the City.
"I am proud of the efforts and support for this wonderful initiative that will help make the holidays special for so many children," said City Manager Clayton Harris. "To encourage public participation, staff actively promoted this initiative across the City and collection stations were set up at community centres, libraries, fire halls and other City facilities."
This year marks the 45th Annual CP24 CHUM Christmas Wish. The CP24 CHUM Christmas Wish is one of the largest distributors of toys to those in need in the Greater Toronto Area. In 2010, the Wish program supported 404 agencies and over 350,000 individuals through toy and financial assistance.
