Fifth Annual Juried Art Exhibition Unveiled

The opening of the fifth annual Vaughan Juried Exhibition – An Art Integration Project – will take place on Tuesday, May 31 at the City Playhouse Theatre, commencing at 7 p.m. The event features a month-long display of artwork by emerging and established visual artists from Vaughan and the Greater Toronto Area.

The exhibition showcases 27 original works of art chosen by a professional panel from 129 submissions. A wide range of art media is represented, including painting, drawing, sculpture, printmaking and photography.
Awards were earned by a number of exhibiting artists following the jury panel’s selection of works in the top categories: Best in Show, Reserve Best in Show, and Juror’s Award of Merit.

Best in Show was awarded to Frances Patella for her mixed media photography and acrylic based work, Area 7, High Park – a temporal aspect to the representation of landscape using paint and photography to produce a synthesis of media that explores issues of time, perception and permanence.
Reserve Best in Show went to Ron Wild for a digital C-print titled Rawnwild – an exploration in information visualization that integrates the world of art and science through complex mapping imagery.

Jurors’ Awards of Merit were assigned to works by Warren Hoyano for his watercolour Dissolve in Time, David Kempton for his photograph Canadian Idle, Kurt Rostek for his painting Prairie Possibility, and Jason Salvatore for his photograph, My Path.

The People’s Choice Award will be decided by public vote. Residents are encouraged to visit the exhibition and cast a vote for their favourite work.
The artwork will be on display in the lobby area of the City Playhouse Theatre, 1000 New Westminster Drive, Thornhill, from May 31 to June 26. Members of the public are welcome to view the exhibition on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 1 to 7 p.m. and Saturdays from noon to 6 p.m. Admission is free and there is ample parking.
