Vaughan's Public Works Department has won the Miller Cup for the fourth year in a row by placing first at the annual York Area Municipalities Public Works Week Challenge Event. The competition was part of National Public Works Week taking place from May 15 to 21.

"Vaughan is the only municipality to have won the Miller Cup four consecutive years," said Mayor Maurizio Bevilacqua. "I would like to applaud our team's efforts in capturing another championship title. The men and women of our Public Works Department are tasked with the vital role of operating the City's transportation, water, sewage and solid waste management systems which sustain our high quality of life."
The event took place on May 18 and featured public works crews from York Region and its nine municipalities. It highlights the skills and importance of public works professionals across the region.
The event featured four timed challenges which included:

• A backhoe operator skills competition
• A simulated snow plough obstacle course in which both driver and wing plough operator tested their skills
• A watermain repair and installation challenge
• A truck and trailer obstacle contest

"Our winning formula continues, thanks to our exceptional Public Works staff," said City Manager Clayton Harris. "These professionals bring a high-level of skill and dedication to their jobs each and every day in serving the residents and businesses of Vaughan."
