Find Your Strong with new virtual fitness classes
Enjoy a wide selection of classes, from yoga to high-intensity interval training
Since City of Vaughan fitness centres and pools closed to the public in March to help stop the spread of COVID-19, the Recreation Services team has been busy launching a variety of online programs to keep people of all ages healthy and active from the safety of home.
Their latest initiative is free full-length virtual
fitness classes, launching on Monday, June 15 on the Recreation
Vaughan YouTube channel. Here is the
weekly schedule:
- Mondays: 10 a.m. – total body conditioning; 7 p.m. – yoga fusion
- Tuesdays: 10 a.m. – core and band; 7 p.m. CIRC-HIIT (high-intensity interval training)
- Wednesdays: 10 a.m. – hi-lo internal training; 7 p.m. – total body conditioning
- Thursdays: 10 a.m. – core and stretch; 7 p.m. – CIRC-HIIT
- Fridays: 10 a.m. – Tabata
- Saturdays: 10 a.m. – total body conditioning
- Sundays: 10 a.m. – CIRC-HIIT
Classes, which are 40 to 60 minutes long, will be
taught by experienced Vaughan fitness co-ordinators. Follow the @recvaughan Instagram page for daily updates on classes.
Recreation Services continues to offer a number of other virtual recreation
resources for all ages, abilities and areas of
interest. Popular activities include:
- Virtual Summer Adventures series with summer camp activities and recreational programs livestreamed remotely via Zoom from Monday, July 6 to Friday, Sept. 4, 2020. Preregistration is required. For details: vaughan.ca/RecOnline
- daily online activities for June is Recreation and Parks Month, including trail hikes, cooking, dancing, sports, fitness and scavenger hunts.
- Vaughan Playschool educational worksheets for children ages three to five reading and writing, math and science.
- easy-to-follow at-home workouts from Vaughan Fitness instructors, featured on Recreation Services’ Instagram TV. Video exercises have been modified to do inside the home or out in the backyard, and include the following classes: yoga, Zumba, Pilates, belly dancing, boot camp, and barre/chair exercises.
- stretching, nutrition tips and healthy-eating recipes from Vaughan Fitness instructors.
- learning first aid basics from certified Vaughan lifeguards.
- singing songs with Vaughan Playschool instructors.
- acting, dancing and singing with the City Playhouse Theatre crew.
- other fun activities, such as colouring, crafting and cooking.
