Free Family Activities at Vaughan Community Centres this Holiday Monday

Free Family Day drop-in activities will be offered at participating City of Vaughan recreation facilities on the Family Day holiday, Monday, February 18, in addition to the  regularly scheduled recreation programs and lessons.

The Maple Community Centre is featuring: badminton, basketball, futsal, soccer and glow-in-the-dark bowling at the recently renovated bowling alley.

Other specialty programs include:

  • Boot Camp
  • Zumba
  • Karate
  • Yoga
  • Pilates
  • Paint with Me
  • Mother/Daughter Ballet Bar
  • Quick Creations
  • Family Nature Hike – pets are welcome  
  • Practice climbing and vertical training skills on the Maple Community Centre’s FITWALL 

Games rooms, featuring entertainment such as Wii, Xbox, pool tables, foosball, air hockey and ping pong are open at varying times for families and youth.

Free recreational ice-skating, sponsored by Tim Hortons, is available at Al Palladini and Maple Arenas from noon to 2 p.m, and at Garnet A. Williams Arena from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Supervised skating on outdoor rinks is also available at scheduled times.

Members of the Al Palladini, Father Ermanno Bulfon, Garnet A. Williams, Maple and North Thornhill fitness centres can invite a guest, 13 years of age and older, at no cost. Maple fitness centre is hosting the latest special needs program Shape Your Body, which includes weight training, coordination and balance and core conditioning exercises for individuals with disabilities.

Recreational swimming and aquafitness are provided throughout the day at all of the City's pools at a nominal fee. Young swimmers ages 7 to 15 can put their aquatic skills to the test during the Vaughan Lifesaving Event at Maple and Vellore Village pools. The competition is comprised of a mannequin tow, swim with fins and underwater and obstacle swims.
