Canada Summer Jobs program supports opportunities for more than 100 young people

Thanks to support from the Canada Summer Jobs program, the City of Vaughan is helping more than 100 young people gain employment information, skills and experience this season with the creation of roles across the organization.

This federal program, under the Government of Canada’s Youth Employment and Skills Strategy, offers services and employment opportunities to help young Canadians gain the skills and work experience needed to successfully transition into the workforce and build a long-lasting career.

This summer, the City was approved for up to $233,100 in wage subsidies with the Canada Summer Jobs program. These wage subsidies led to the creation of 110 summer positions for people between the ages of 15 and 30 beginning their career.

A variety of positions, ranging from entry-level to senior roles, from the following departments were created:

  • Development Engineering
  • Economic Development
  • Environmental Services
  • Human Resources
  • Parks, Forestry and Horticulture Operations
  • Recreation Services
  • Transportation and Fleet Management Services

All successful 2022 Canada Summer Jobs program applicants have officially begun their employment remotely or in person at Vaughan City Hall, the Joint Operations Centre or camp locations across Vaughan. The City has a proven high retention rate, as many summer program employees gain permanent employment with the organization once their work terms are complete.
