Giving the gift of Christmas
Vaughan launches seventh
annual toy drive to benefit thousands of children
The magic of the holiday season was on the faces
of children today as the City of Vaughan launched its seventh annual toy drive
in support of the CP24 CHUM Christmas Wish. The annual campaign kicked off at
St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Elementary School where students, teachers and
parents showed their support by helping the City continue the tradition of
giving back to families in need.
This year
marks the 50th anniversary of the CP24 CHUM Christmas Wish, a program that benefits hundreds of thousands of people
across the Greater Toronto Area. Since 2010, with the help of participating
schools, businesses and residents, Vaughan has collected tens of thousands of
toys that have gone to children in the community and beyond.
Mayor Maurizio
Bevilacqua encourages local schools, residents and businesses to participate in
this year’s drive by dropping off new, unwrapped toys for children aged newborn
to 18 years at Vaughan community centres, libraries, fire stations and the City’s
Joint Operations Centre at 2800 Rutherford Rd. until Dec. 9. Toys also can be taken
to Vaughan City Hall until Dec. 12 at noon.
QUOTE
“The
holiday season is one that inspires us to reflect upon the many blessings which
are bestowed upon us. It is a season of deep contemplation and joy. I continue
to be inspired by Vaughan citizens who are committed to helping others. Today,
in collaboration with St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Elementary School
community, we officially launched our toy drive, making a positive difference
to many people’s lives. The act of giving is powerful. One toy can have a
lasting and meaningful impact by putting a smile on a child’s face on Christmas
Day. We have a responsibility to make tomorrow better than today and,
collectively, give the gift of hope to those who are less fortunate. For all of
us, there is nothing more rewarding than this.”
