Growing Vaughan’s urban forest
105 trees planted in celebration of Arbor Week
It’s Arbor Week and the City of Vaughan is doing its part to plant roots for future generations. To mark the occasion, the City hosted a tree-planting event today at Concord/Thornhill Regional Park (299 Racco Pkwy.).
Mayor Steven Del Duca, Members of Council, City staff and community volunteers lent a hand to plant 105 trees which will be enjoyed for generations to come.
Tree-planting initiatives like this further strengthen the City’s commitment to environmental sustainability and developing our tree canopy, priorities in the Urban Forest Management Plan (PDF).
Vaughan’s vision is for a healthy, growing and sustainable urban forest canopy that supports biodiversity, human health, recreation and community resilience. As part of this plan, the City also developed the Woodland Management Strategy (PDF) to guide the direction of all City-owned woodlands.
Trees help provide oxygen, improve mental and physical health, and offer habitats, food and other resources for many animal species.

QUOTE
“Vaughan’s urban canopy plays a pivotal role in providing an incredible quality of life for everyone. Trees provide oxygen, improve mental and physical health, and provide shelter and food for humans and animals. They also cool the air, save water, reduce noise pollution, capture stormwater runoff and beautify the community! Today, we added to our more than four-million trees with a community planting event at Concord/Thornhill Regional Park. Vaughan is blessed with remarkable parks and green spaces, and it is vital for the City to be their biggest champion. I want to thank the dedicated volunteers for their time and commitment to improving our community, and our hard-working staff from the Parks, Forestry and Horticulture Operations department who continue making Vaughan a green city.”
– Mayor Steven Del Duca
