Join us on Jan. 30 to learn about our plans and share your opinions

If you live, work, play, study in or regularly commute through the Vaughan Metropolitan Centre (VMC), we want to hear from you!

The City of Vaughan is developing a new VMC Transportation Master Plan to help guide and manage transportation in the city’s new downtown core. This plan will identify transportation needs, provide a strategy for street connectivity and accessibility, and support various ways to get around, such as walking, biking, public transit and ridesharing, through to 2051.

A draft plan is in progress and we’re looking for your input once again. What are your thoughts on the proposed transportation options for the VMC? Would these proposed strategies help alleviate gridlock? Are there other areas for improvement that have not been identified?

Here’s how you can get involved:

Join a Public Information Centre on Thursday, Jan. 30 in the main lobby of the David Braley Vaughan Metropolitan Centre of Community (200 Apple Mill Rd.) to:

  • learn more about the study process to date.
  • hear the recommendations to enhance options for walking, cycling, transit and roads in the VMC.
  • share your thoughts on parking, transportation needs, street connectivity and accessibility, and more.
  • provide input on the draft plan before it’s finalized.

Drop in anytime from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. to speak to the team and have your say.

Can’t attend in-person? No problem! You can still get involved. Following the Public Information Centre, you can review material online and submit comments via email to vmctmp@wsp.com or take the online survey available at vaughan.ca/VMCTMP by Thursday, Feb. 13.

ABOUT THE PLAN

Located in the heart of the city – northeast of Highways 400 and 407 – the VMC is envisioned to be a complete community that provides residents, businesses and visitors with amenities of an urban lifestyle: multi-use office towers, residences, access to rapid transit, open green space, urban squares, pedestrian shopping areas, restaurants, walking and cycling paths, and more.

Just like in any urban area, adequate parking, transit connections and pedestrian-friendly options are required. And with more people living, working and travelling through the VMC, a new Transportation Master Plan is required to plan for current and future growth in the VMC.

The new plan will confirm transportation needs, policies and a phasing strategy to 2051. In addition, it will provide an assessment of existing and future transportation conditions in the VMC, outline the transportation needs of residents travelling through the core and evaluate infrastructure needed for a transportation network that supports various ways to get around.

We are currently in the planning stages of updating the VMC Secondary Plan to co-ordinate an integrated approach to transportation and land use planning in this area. The overall goal of the new plan will be to create an efficient experience to help you travel in, to, out of and around the VMC. Visit vaughan.ca/VMCPLAN to learn more about this secondary plan.
