Report household dumping and litter to Access Vaughan

Spring is a perfect time of year to spend outdoors in Vaughan’s parks, which are most enjoyable when kept garbage- and litter-free. The City of Vaughan encourages you to play an essential role in ensuring the great outdoors remain safe, clean and beautiful.

Dumping your household garbage in parks and other public spaces has a negative impact on the community and everyone’s quality of life: it can be harmful to the environment, dangerous for pets and wildlife as they may eat or be injured by discarded items, and costs money for the City to clean up.

If you have excess garbage, save it for Double-Up Days during the weeks of April 5 or 12. Place up to six items of garbage for collection – no paid tags required. You can also take extra garbage to a York Region Waste Depot for safe disposal.

When visiting Vaughan’s parks or trails, use the recycling and garbage bins provided by the City. If the bins are full, take your garbage home with you, including pet waste.

Littering and dumping are prohibited under the Dumping By-law 103-2020 (PDF). Individuals found dumping their household garbage are subject to a maximum fine of $5,000 per offence. If you witness illegal dumping or littering, please report it to Access Vaughan at 905-832-2281 or accessvaughan@vaughan.ca.

If you’re unsure where a waste item belongs, download the Recycle Coach app through the Apple App Store or Google Play. The app also provides waste-less tips and a personalized collection schedule with optional alerts on what to put at the curb each week. The City also offers an online sorting tool so you can quickly check where an item belongs using the search bar. For more information on waste collection in Vaughan, visit vaughan.ca/waste.
