Place up to six garbage items out during the collection weeks of April 5 or 12

It’s that time of year when you may be cleaning out your home for a fresh start in the spring. To help you dispose of any excess waste items you may have, the City of Vaughan’s Double-Up Days are back – in just two weeks!

On your regular garbage collection day during the weeks of April 5 or 12, you can place up to six garbage items at the curb – no paid tags required. Large or bulky items, such as mattresses, can also be placed curbside for pickup, and each piece counts as one item toward the six-item limit. All materials must be set out by 7 a.m. on collection day. Read the guidelines for setting out large or bulky items or visit vaughan.ca/waste for additional details.

Remember, all household hazardous waste (such as paint and chemicals), electronic waste (such as cellphones and laptops) and batteries are not collected curbside and must be taken to the York Region Waste Depot at 130 McCleary Crt. in Vaughan. Additionally, construction and renovation waste are not picked up curbside but can also be taken to the waste depot in Vaughan – fees apply.

If you’re unsure what items belong in the garbage or what can be recycled, download the Recycle Coach app through the Apple App Store or Google Play to help determine what goes where. The app also provides waste-less tips and a personalized collection schedule with optional alerts on what to put at the curb each week.

Residential appliance and metal pickup

Have you recently upgraded your appliances and are looking to dispose of old ones or other large metal items? The City collects these items by appointment only on Thursdays. Book an appointment and pay through Service Vaughan or call Access Vaughan at 905-832-2281. For more information, visit the City’s Appliance and Metal Pickup webpage.

Exchange or purchase a blue box or green bin

Need a new blue box or green bin? You can purchase blue boxes and green bins in person at select community centres. Alternatively, purchase these items online through Service Vaughan and have them delivered right to your door. You can also sign up to exchange a broken City-issued blue box or green bin for a new one at vaughan.ca/ServiceVaughan.
