Vote for your favourite options by Aug. 2

Blizzard of Oz, Flurrious George and Thaw Patrol – these are just a few of the nearly 400 submissions we received for our Name the Plow initiative! Thank you to everyone who sent in their creative snowplow name idea. It was tough as ice, but City of Vaughan staff have now narrowed it down and selected 20 entries for final voting – and we need your help to pick 10 winners!

There are two ways you can vote for your favourite snowplow name(s) now until Wednesday, Aug. 2:

1. IN PERSON

Vote in person at the following City-led events:

  • Vaughan Celebrates Concerts in the Park
    • Wednesday, June 14 at 7:30 p.m. at Vaughan Metropolitan Centre (100 New Park Pl.)
    • Wednesday, June 28 at 7:30 p.m. at Sonoma Heights Community Park (100 Sunset Ridge)
    • Wednesday, July 12 at 7:30 p.m. at Chancellor District Park (430 Chancellor Dr.)

  • Vaughan Celebrates Canada Day
    • Saturday, July 1 from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Boyd Conservation Park (8739 Islington Ave.)

Look for a City booth with ‘Name the Plow’ signage – and step right up to have your say!

2. ONLINE

Visit vaughan.ca/snow to view the 20 finalist names and vote for the one – or ones – you think are best in ‘snow’!

Stay tuned for when we will reveal the 10 winning names in October, each of which will be placed on a snowplow that will help keep Vaughan’s roads clear throughout the 2023/24 winter season.

Our winter operations

The Name the Plow initiative is fun, but Vaughan takes snow-clearing operations seriously. The City provides residents with a high level of snow-removal services. Whether it’s reducing ice on roads, removing snow from roads or clearing it from paths, sidewalks and windrows, the City’s crews strive to ensure residents and visitors can travel safely despite the weather.

The City has a fleet of more than 230 vehicles – including salter/snowplow units, windrow machines, sidewalk machines, pickup trucks equipped with plows and salters, cul-de-sac-clearing machines and anti-icing units – to ensure citizens are provided with high-quality winter services. The City uses this equipment to clear and maintain more than 2,200 lane-kilometres of roads and over 1,200 kilometres of sidewalks and park walkways.
