Next summer stop: Vaughan Metropolitan Centre
Explore the City’s downtown core
Summer offers the perfect excuse to get out and explore the city! So make plans to visit the Vaughan Metropolitan Centre (VMC) – the city’s emerging arts, culture and entertainment district. Whether you’re playing tourist close to home or visiting Vaughan for the first time, there is lots to see in the VMC!
Here are some reasons to make Vaughan’s downtown core your next summer stop:
Vaughan Celebrates Concerts in the Park series
Start your summer off right with a night of live outdoor music! The City of Vaughan’s 29th annual Vaughan Celebrates Concerts in the Park series, presented by TD and event sponsor Tim Hortons, is back starting in June! This free event will take place throughout the summer, starting on Wednesday, June 14, with platinum-selling singer/songwriter and JUNO Award winner, Shawn Desman at the Vaughan Metropolitan Centre, Transit Square, 100 New Park Pl. This event is the first in the series, which will be held throughout the city on select Wednesdays from June 14 to Aug. 2, from 7:30 p.m. to 9 p.m., weather permitting. For a complete schedule and additional details, visit vaughan.ca/concerts.
Public art
Be sure to bring your cameras to check out public art in the city’s core! The VMC features the first City of Vaughan-curated panoramic art installation, Metropolis in Motion, at the south gateway of the VMC along Highway 7. This three-dimensional art mural by Vaughan-based artist Frank Mazzuca gradually reveals two different images depending on your viewing perspective.
Local dining
While you’re in the VMC, stop for a bite to eat. Whether you’ve got a hungry family to feed or are looking for a quick snack, there are so many delicious options close by. Check out local dining options – from restaurants to bakeries and cafés, you’ll find something to please every palate.
David Braley Vaughan Metropolitan Centre of Community
The VMC also has a new state-of-the-art recreation facility and library at the David Braley Vaughan Metropolitan Centre of Community. The facility includes the City’s newest recreation venue – Vaughan Studios and Event Space, Vaughan Public Libraries’ latest branches – the VMC Library and VMC Express – and a YMCA Centre of Community. Located in the heart of the VMC at 200 Apple Mill Rd., it is steps away from the VMC subway station, making it easily accessible to the entire community.
Community events
From festivals to markets and so much more – there’s lots of excitement at the VMC! For a full list of events, explore visitvaughan.ca and check out the Summer in Vaughan webpage for What to see at the VMC.
