The purpose of the City’s Older Adult Task Force is to make recommendations on older adult matters, discuss relevant issues and promote healthy, active lifestyles for seniors in Vaughan. By promoting an age-friendly community, the goal is to align policies, services and infrastructure to help this demographic be engaged, active and safe in the community. To this end, the task force will:
- identify issues or barriers to City services and programs faced by older adults, and recommend possible solutions.
- identify opportunities to leverage partnerships with York Region, other local municipalities, senior-serving organizations, other levels of government and the non-profit sector.
- identify educational opportunities to promote City programs, resources, initiatives and policies that will enhance the quality of life for older adults in the community.
- identify gaps in older adult programs and services and make recommendations for improvement.
- explore opportunities that would allow older adults to remain in their homes as they age.
- submit findings and recommendations to Vaughan Council for review prior to June 30, 2022.
The City is currently seeking two task force members – individuals who are of the older adult population, or people who have significant insight and experience with Vaughan’s senior community – to join a team consisting of two Members of Council, City and York Region staff, members of the public and representatives of older adult community group/organizations.
To be eligible, applicants must be Vaughan residents or own property in Vaughan, Canadian citizens, 18 years of age or older and not be employed by the municipality. Selected applicants will serve as members of the Older Adult Task Force until June 2022, attend meetings every month and adhere to the Code of Ethics and the Declaration of Office found within the Older Adult Task Force application package (PDF). Interested residents must submit their application by email to clerks@vaughan.ca or by fax to 905-832-8535 by 4:30 p.m. on Friday, Feb 19.
