Activities for all ages at Vaughan community centres during December break

If you’re enjoying a staycation this coming holiday season, then make a trip to Vaughan community centres for drop-in leisure activities from Dec. 20, 2014 to Jan. 2, 2015. There are a number of activities for the whole family to enjoy:

  • Older adult activities: free pickleball (a cross between badminton, tennis and ping-pong) at Maple Community Centre, as well as specialty fitness classes including muscle conditioning, gentle pilates and yoga at Garnet A. Williams and North Thornhill fitness centres. The Seniors Association of Vaughan Initiative (SAVI) offers many social, cultural, recreational and educational activities. Join today!

  • Holiday Happenings special day camp: offered at Garnet A. Williams Community Centre for children aged four to 12. It includes arts and crafts, sports, swimming and more. Pre-register today!

  • Kool Holidays special needs day camp: offered at Maple Community Centre for children 12 and up. Activities include swimming, cooking, arts and crafts, co-operative games and a visit to the McMichael Canadian Art Collection. Pre-register today!

  • Free skating: sponsored by Tim Hortons and available at Al Palladini, Garnet A. Williams and Maple indoor arenas, with free supervised skating available at Vaughan outdoor rinks.

  • Vaughan fitness centres: open to residents 14 years and older and includes many amenities — squash courts, running tracks and fitness classes. Pay-per-visit option is available for non-members; student and older adult rates available.

  • Youth rooms: open for youth aged 10 to 17, and includes games tables, video games and youth sports. Annual youth membership required.

  • Vaughan Intramural Recreational Adult League (V.I.R.A.L.): free volleyball and dodgeball games for adults at Maple Community Centre.

  • Other activities include: swimming, aquafitness, badminton, basketball, bocce, shinny hockey, bowling, youth open gym and adult and youth games rooms for a nominal fee; child and youth, older adult and group rates available.

Holiday activity schedules are available at City community centres and online at vaughan.ca/recreation. Check times and dates of preferred locations as facilities may vary in hours of operation. All facilities are closed Dec. 25, 2014 and Jan. 1, 2015.
