Honouring hard work and dedication

Vaughan Fire and Rescue Service celebrates 16 new firefighters

The City of Vaughan is one of the safest communities in the country, and has a fire service that is dedicated to protecting the health and well-being of its citizens. At a graduation ceremony today, Vaughan Fire and Rescue Service took time to recognize its members as they celebrated 16 new firefighters, 11 promotions, two new fire inspectors and one new communications operator.

The new firefighters were the focus of the morning having just completed a rigorous 12-week program. It included classroom training and hands-on experience that gave the recruits the skills to perform their duties quickly and efficiently in an emergency. The process to become a Vaughan firefighter is long and competitive. Hundreds of applications are submitted, but only the most qualified and physically fit are accepted.

At the ceremony, the new firefighters were presented with their completion certificates and the promoted officers were given their designated helmets. Mayor Maurizio Bevilacqua, City Manager Daniel Kostopoulos and fire Chief Larry Bentley were in attendance to give thanks to the honourees for the hard work they do every day to ensure the safety and well-being of Vaughan citizens.
