How to dispose of large, bulky items and appliances

Are you swapping out old furniture for something new? Before your next waste collection day, make sure you know all the ins and outs of the City of Vaughan’s large and bulky item and large metal item and appliance collection services: 

Large and bulky items

Large or bulky items, such as mattresses, chairs and tables, can be placed curbside for disposal during scheduled garbage collection days. Each piece counts as one item toward the three-item garbage limit. For the safety of our waste collectors, ensure your items are kept dry and each item does not exceed 68 kilograms (150 pounds). The City reserves the right to refuse unsafe, overweight or oversized items.

Toilets

The City also picks up toilets curbside on scheduled garbage collection days. Check if your toilet is two-piece, as all two-piece toilets must be disassembled before placing it curbside for collection. Don’t know how to disassemble your toilet? Watch this quick video to learn how.

Remember to place all items curbside by 7 a.m. on your scheduled collection day. Waste collectors will not return for materials set out late.

Large metal items and appliances

Large metal items and appliances, such as dishwashers, humidifiers and refrigerators, are collected by appointment only on Thursdays – fees apply. Book an appointment and pay through Service Vaughan, or call the City at 905-832-2281 or email service@vaughan.ca.
