Inaugural Order of Vaughan Ceremony honours those who have made our community great
Mayor Bevilacqua announces 25 appointments to the Order
of Vaughan
The Honorable Maurizio Bevilacqua, Mayor of the City
of Vaughan, will preside over the first Order of Vaughan investiture ceremony
on Tuesday, Oct. 25 at Riviera Parque. The Mayor will bestow the honour on 25
people who have played a pivotal role in shaping the city.
In celebration
of Vaughan’s 25th anniversary, the Order of Vaughan was created this year to pay
tribute to people who have contributed to the city’s success. It recognizes
people within the following categories: arts and entertainment, media and
communications, athletics, health and wellness, business, philanthropy, public
service, education, science and technology, not-for-profit, equity and
diversity, accessibility, environment and spirituality.

Citations for the list of recipients are attached. Following
the ceremony, an event will take place at the Riviera Parque, at 2800 Highway 7,
to celebrate Vaughan’s milestone year. Members of the public are encouraged to
attend.

QUICK FACTS
- Recipients will receive an Order of Vaughan pin and certificate.
- Starting in 2017, up to 10 nominees will receive the Order of Vaughan each year. To be eligible for consideration, a candidate must be a resident or former resident of the City.
- Applications will be accepted from Nov. 1, 2016 to June 1, 2017. Nomination forms will be available online and at City Hall, all Vaughan community centres and public libraries.
- Completed nominations will be considered by the Order of Vaughan Selection Committee, which will recommend successful nominations to Vaughan Council for approval.
- Members of the Order of Vaughan Selection Committee are the City Manager, Deputy City Manager of Community Services, City Clerk (as the chair), CEO of Vaughan Public Libraries, a representative of the Vaughan Chamber of Commerce, City Archivist and a past recipient of the Order of Vaughan starting in 2017.
