Last call for Order of Vaughan 2019 nominations

Reminder: there are three weeks left to nominate a deserving individual for the 2019 Order of Vaughan. Nominations are being accepted until Wednesday, July 31.

First launched by Mayor Maurizio Bevilacqua in 2016, the Order of Vaughan is the highest honour the City may present. It is an opportunity to recognize acts of public service and celebrate the Spirit of Generosity of outstanding individuals who have made significant and enduring contributions to the community.
 
Since its inception, 38 remarkable people have been invested into the Order through their endeavours in one or more of the following 14 categories: 
  • Accessibility
  • Arts and Entertainment​
  • ​Athletics
  • Business
  • Education
  • Environment ​
  • Equity and Diversity
  • Health and Wellness
  • Media and Communications ​
  • Not-For-Profit ​
  • Philanthropy
  • ​Public Service
  • Science and Technology
  • ​Spirituality
 
Who is eligible?
To be considered for the Order of Vaughan, a nominee must be a living person at the time of nomination and have made a significant contribution to the community. Nominations will not be accepted for staff currently employed by the City of Vaughan or for current elected public officials at the federal, provincial or municipal level. Self-nominations will also not be accepted.
 
How do I nominate?
To nominate a deserving individual, submit an application. Nomination forms (PDF) are available on the City’s website and printed copies are available at City Hall, local community centres and public library branches. Any supporting documents must be included with the form at the time of submission and should speak to the character and accomplishments of the nominee.
 
How are the recipients chosen?
The Order of Vaughan Selection Committee reviews completed nominations and recommends up to 10 successful candidates to Council for approval. The 2019 Order will be presented by Mayor Bevilacqua and Members of Council during an official investiture ceremony.
