Mayor Maurizio Bevilacqua joined students and staff at St. Cecilia Catholic Elementary School today to officially launch the City of Vaughan’s fourth annual toy drive in support of the CP24 CHUM Christmas Wish.

“I am truly touched by the outpouring of support we receive every year for this toy drive,” said Mayor Bevilacqua. “I would like to thank the students and teachers at St. Cecilia Catholic Elementary School for their commitment to the toy drive and their enthusiasm at today’s event. We have created a memorable tradition in the community by coming together to support the families who need assistance during the holiday season. The generosity and compassion of everyone involved serves to remind us of the incredible community that we have in Vaughan.”

The 2012 toy drive collected more than 8,000 toys for children in the community. Mayor Bevilacqua and Members of Council are inviting local schools, residents and businesses to take part in this year’s drive by dropping off new, unwrapped toys at any one of the designated locations across the City. The toys, for children aged newborn to 18 years of age, will be accepted at Vaughan community centres, libraries, fire halls and the City’s Joint Operations Centre located at 2800 Rutherford Rd. until Dec. 9. Toys also can be dropped off at Vaughan City Hall until Dec. 11.

This year marks the 47th annual CP24 CHUM Christmas Wish. It is one of the largest distributors of toys to those in need in the Greater Toronto Area. In 2012, the Wish program supported 300,000 individuals through toy and financial assistance.
