Vaughan Healthcare Centre Precinct Plan Revised in Response to Public Input
Nov. 19, 2013
In response to input from the public and key stakeholders, a revised Vaughan Healthcare Centre Precinct Plan was approved at Council today. The precinct plan provides the framework for the development of the 82-acre City-owned parcel of land just north of Canada’s Wonderland at Major Mackenzie Drive and Jane Street which includes the future Mackenzie Vaughan Hospital.
“On behalf of Council, we are pleased that, with the input of residents and other key stakeholders, the precinct plan for the Mackenzie Vaughan Hospital has now been approved,” said Mayor Maurizio Bevilacqua. “This is a major step forward in terms of completing the plan that is needed to develop the land. It also demonstrates that we are united in our goal to provide the best healthcare services possible to the residents of Vaughan.”
The revised plan includes lower building heights across the northerly portion of the site and higher structures towards Major Mackenzie Drive. Buildings will be constructed with a gradual height transition, ensuring that light, view and privacy are maintained for the existing residential neighbourhood to the north. The road network is designed to accommodate future requirements for the hospital precinct, taking into account the surrounding road network. The updated location of the planned underground infrastructure beneath roads will allow future changes in the road network if required. The City also recognizes that any future expansion in the size of the buildings, in terms of the maximum square footage allowed, will require a reassessment of the transportation needs in the area.
The Vaughan Healthcare Centre Precinct Plan provides a detailed framework for the development of the site including a servicing strategy, a transportation plan and urban design guidelines. The precinct plan allows for the development of a hospital in addition to healthcare related uses including medical and dental offices, research and laboratory facilities, rehabilitation and long-term care facilities, education and conference facilities related to healthcare, and other uses that promote health and wellness.
