Longtime Maple resident named 2020 Ward 1 Civic Hero
Maria-Eva Cristante recognized for commitment to volunteerism in Vaughan
Today, during a special virtual ceremonial presentation in the Committee of the Whole (2) meeting, Mayor Maurizio Bevilacqua, Ward 1 Councillor Marilyn Iafrate and Members of Council presented Maria-Eva Cristante with the 2020 Ward 1 Civic Hero Award.
As a devoted volunteer, Maria-Eva has supported many community organizations in Vaughan, including St. David Parish, the Valigia d'Oro and the Maple Health Centre, where she assists with delivering mass for the residents.
In 2001, Maria-Eva joined the Maple Pioneer Seniors Club – a social club for older adults of Italian heritage, which provides recreation and excursions for its members. She was elected Vice-President in 2002, and, in 2003, she became President – a position she currently holds.
Maria-Eva has served as a Minister of the Eucharist at St. David's Parish, where she delivered communion during mass. She also participated in the World-Wide Marriage Encounter – Italian Sector, offering support to newly-married couples.
