Vaughan launches sixth annual toy drive to benefit thousands of children

With the holidays fast approaching, the City of Vaughan is continuing the tradition of giving back to families in need. Today the City launched its sixth annual toy drive in support of the CP24 CHUM Christmas Wish.

With a goal of collecting 10,000 toys, the City partnered with St. Raphael the Archangel Catholic Elementary School to officially launch the campaign. The CP24 CHUM Christmas Wish program has become one of the largest distributors of toys to children in need in the Greater Toronto Area and benefits 300,000 people through toy and financial support.

Mayor Maurizio Bevilacqua encourages local schools, residents and businesses to participate in this year’s drive by dropping off new, unwrapped toys for children aged newborn to 18 years of age at Vaughan community centres, libraries, fire stations and the City’s Joint Operations Centre at 2800 Rutherford Rd. until Dec. 10. Toys also can be dropped off at Vaughan City Hall until Dec. 14 at noon.

QUOTE

“The holiday season is about bringing joy and hope to people’s lives. The City of Vaughan started this toy drive six years ago because our community is compassionate, generous and truly understands what it means to give back. Donating a toy may seem like a simple act, but the happiness it can bring to a child in need will have a lasting positive impact on their lives, and that’s really what it is all about. Today, with the help of students, parents, teachers and staff from St. Raphael the Archangel Catholic Elementary School, we officially launched our toy drive, kicking off the campaign to bring smiles to children in Vaughan and across the GTA. Together we are continuing our mission to help give every child a gift on Christmas.
-Mayor Maurizio Bevilacqua
