Concerts in the Park, city’s volunteers earn recognition

Mayor Maurizio Bevilacqua issued the following statement at today’s Committee of the Whole meeting:

“On behalf of Council, I want to congratulate the Events Team in Recreation Services on receiving two awards from Festivals and Events Ontario.

“Our City has received the Achievement Award for Best Volunteer Program and we have been recognized as a Top 100 Festival for our popular Concerts in the Park series.

“Join me in recognizing Mary Reali, Deputy City Manager of Community Services, Sunny Bains, Director of Recreation Services and the entire Events team including:

  • Manager of Events, Anna Dara
  • Anna Rose
  • Franca Gatto
  • Anita Micoli-Falcone
  • Melissa Ho
  • Sylvia Roccia
  • Nadia Tersigni
“Through the efforts of the City’s Recreation Services department – in particular, the Events Team – Concerts in the Park is an entertaining and well-run annual series that contributes to Vaughan’s exceptional quality of life.

“More than 8,000 residents and visitors attend the concerts every summer.

“Through June and July, those who are young – and young at heart – gather at our local parks to enjoy the outdoors, the company of neighbours and great music performed by talented musicians.

“I’m also happy to report that the first of our 2019 Concerts in the Park series will be held on June 5 in Transit Square, in our new downtown – the Vaughan Metropolitan Centre.

“This is the very first City of Vaughan signature event taking place in Transit Square, which is truly exciting as we experience the vision of our dynamic downtown coming to life.

“Residents can expect to hear more details about this summer’s concert series very soon.

“When it comes to the over 35 events, hosted by the City of Vaughan each year, it is also important to pay tribute to the many volunteers who help to ensure their success.

“We can all take pride in living in a city that places a high value on the efforts of volunteers – which we will be celebrating next week at our Annual Volunteer Recognition Ceremony – another fantastic event organized by the Recreation Services Events Team.

“Once again, I congratulate the City’s Events Team on this well-deserved recognition and we look forward to another year of exciting events in Vaughan.”
