Mayor Bevilacqua congratulates York Region Chair Wayne Emmerson

Vaughan looks forward to strengthening relations, delivering results

The following is a statement delivered by Vaughan Mayor Maurizio Bevilacqua to congratulate newly reappointed York Region Chair Wayne Emmerson:

“During the past four years, under Chair Emmerson’s leadership, York Region has flourished and staked its position as a destination of choice in Ontario in which to raise a family, open a new business and celebrate the diversity of our numerous rich cultures.

“Citizens rightly expect modern, effective and reliable services, and, as one of Vaughan’s representatives at Regional Council, I look forward to continuing this important work during this next Term of Council.

“I, along with our other Regional Councillors, Mario Ferri, Gino Rosati and Linda Jackson, will continue to work with our city-building partners in the Federal and Provincial governments to improve the quality of life for our citizens.

"York Region municipalities are well-positioned as some of the best places to live. York Region is also recognized as a proven leader in delivering long-term economic growth, unlocking opportunity and building inclusive communities.York Region municipalities are well-positioned as some of the best places to live. York Region is also recognized as a proven leader in delivering long-term economic growth, unlocking opportunity and building inclusive communities.

“Just as we, in the City of Vaughan, welcomed the start of a new Term of Council and celebrated our own inauguration a few days ago on December 4th, these occasions also represent an opportunity to reflect on our past accomplishments. But always keeping an eye to the bright future we all share in.

“As a result of our ongoing intergovernmental co-operation, important projects have been completed, others are well underway and many more are well-positioned for additional investments.

"Together, we will continue working on behalf of our citizens to safeguard the environment, make critical transportation investments, ensure community safety, promote healthy active living; deliver responsible urban planning; and commit to accountable, transparent governance.

“Residents in Vaughan, and throughout York Region, have come to rely on vital regional services including transit and transportation, waste management and York Regional Police. As a newly reappointed member of the York Regional Police Services Board, I will continue making the public safety of our citizens a priority, while fulfilling the board’s mandate to ensure the delivering of efficient and effective police services to York Region’s 1.2 million residents.

“The positive relationship that our cities and towns have with York Region, sets a high-water mark for others about what can be accomplished by working together. By pursuing collective solutions to individual problems, we see past our own boundaries and continue to drive forward with our citizens and our communities at the centre of our commitment to public service.”
