Mayor Bevilacqua Launches Vaughan's Third Annual Toy Drive to Support CP24 CHUM Christmas Wish
Mayor Maurizio Bevilacqua joined students and staff at St. Stephen Catholic Elementary School today to officially launch the City of Vaughan’s third annual toy drive in support of the CP24 CHUM Christmas Wish.
“I am thrilled by the community support for this new tradition we have created in the City of Vaughan,” said Mayor Bevilacqua. “The generous and compassionate nature of our residents is inspiring and I know means a lot to the families who need assistance during the coming holiday season. I also want to thank the students and teachers at St. Stephen Catholic Elementary School for their support of this year’s toy drive. I am confident that we will have another successful year and bring smiles to the faces of thousands of children.”
The 2011 toy drive collected over 8,000 toys and Mayor Bevilacqua and Members of Council are inviting local schools, residents and businesses to take part in this year’s drive by dropping off a new, unwrapped toy at any one of the designated locations across the City. The toys, for children aged newborn to 18 years-of-age will be accepted at Vaughan community centres, libraries and fire halls until December 10, 2012. Toys also can be dropped off at the Vaughan City Hall until December 12, 2012.

“Year after year, the City of Vaughan shows its support and commitment to those in need in our community,” said City Manager Clayton Harris. “The annual toy drive is an example of that commitment, and I want to acknowledge and thank staff for their hard work on this important initiative.”
This year marks the 46th Annual CP24 CHUM Christmas Wish. The CP24 CHUM Christmas Wish is one of the largest distributors of toys to those in need in the Greater Toronto Area. In 2011, the Wish program supported 300,000 individuals through toy and financial assistance.
