Vaughan Delegation to Participate in Trade Mission to China
The City of Vaughan is participating in the Confederation of Greater Toronto Chinese Business Association Trade Mission to China. The purpose of the mission is to promote greater economic, business and cultural ties between the GTA and China.
“Vaughan has been reaching beyond its borders this year with business missions to Israel and Italy, and now to China,” said Mayor Maurizio Bevilacqua. “With each of these missions we are expanding the City’s horizons and broadening the scope of our potential. These missions are an important component of city building as they demonstrate our commitment to situating Vaughan on the world stage and help our businesses compete at the international level.”
The delegation includes more than 70 members from a number of GTA municipalities and will travel to China from November 23 to December 3. It will include four delegates from the City of Vaughan – Deputy Mayor and Regional Councillor Gino Rosati, Ward 4 Councillor Sandra Yeung Racco, Executive Director Tim Simmonds and Senior Manager of Economic Development Shirley Kam.
The mission will include visits to Shanghai, Beijing, Hong Kong, and Zibo, as well as pre-arranged business meetings, visits to key industrial zones, meetings with local economic development agencies and business associations, and a visit to the Economic and Business Development Forum in Beijing. There will also be a meeting with the Canadian Ambassador to China, Guy Saint-Jacques and a meeting with the Ministry of Commerce and Foreign Trade in Beijing.
“Participating in this mission builds on Vaughan’s success over the past two years with the opening of the Canadian Import Centre in Yiwu,” said City Manager Clayton Harris. “Our economic development efforts continue to facilitate and support our businesses by maintaining excellent relationships with the Greater Toronto Chinese Business Associations and the Chinese Business Council of Vaughan.”
