Day-long event features family friendly activities and entertainment

Marking an important milestone, the 30th annual award-winning Vaughan Celebrates Winterfest returned to Vellore Village Community Centre on Feb. 10. Mayor Maurizio Bevilacqua formally began festivities with a keynote address alongside Members of Council and local dignitaries.

Founded in 1989, Winterfest has grown to become a popular and much anticipated City of Vaughan tradition. This year’s event featured an outdoor stage with live entertainment and signature performances including Kreative in Dance Styles (K.I.D.S.); Zero Gravity Circus – Fire Show; Doo Doo The International Clown; and Sonshine and Broccoli. Vaughan Fire and Rescue Service led a community demonstration and raised awareness about the ongoing importance of fire safety. The annual free pancake breakfast was a success with hundreds of people enjoying delicious flapjacks.

Children had the opportunity to get their photo taken with the beloved animated characters Peppa Pig and George, and Bob the Builder. The indoor stage included performances by EDu Dance Arts Academy. Families had the opportunity to explore many other activities including a photo booth, face painting and horse-drawn wagon rides. The popular CN Little Obie train and a midway of rides and inflatables were also hits.

Vaughan staff were present to engage attendees about a number of important city-building programs and initiatives including recreational programs, environmental stewardship and the Draft 2019 Budget.

Communities are strengthened by gatherings like this – where people come together to celebrate our blessings and make meaningful contributions to our collective well-being. Winterfest is just one of many occasions for us to enjoy Vaughan’s unrivalled quality of life and make new and cherished memories together.”
