St. Joan of Arc senior boys’ soccer team captures York Region Athletic Association Championship

During a City of Vaughan Committee of the Whole meeting, Mayor Maurizio Bevilacqua delivered the following statement, alongside Ward 1 City Councillor Marilyn Iafrate and all Members of Council:

“I am proud to offer my congratulations to St. Joan of Arc Thunder – Tier 1 senior boys soccer team for its victory in the York Region Athletic Association Tier 1 Senior Boys Soccer Championship.

“I am confident that these young athletes will take forward with them in life the many valuable lessons and lasting memories that come from a hard-fought victory on the playing field. Soccer, as with so many other sports, can inspire us to exceed expectations, break through barriers and foster enduring friendships.

“These students are being celebrated for their athletic achievements as well as their many other inspiring attributes including dedication, discipline and fair play. These are noble qualities we all strive for in overcoming challenges and achieving our own dreams.

“We will look to these student-athletes to become role models, serving as an inspiration for future generations. With this victory, they join a rich soccer tradition that continues to unify our community.

We recently opened the 900-acre North Maple Regional Park, with two artificial turf fields, built to FIFA 1 Star standards. These world-class fields will provide more opportunities for everyone, from avid competitors to soccer enthusiasts, to play and practise their skills, and continue to foster this sport in Vaughan.

“Once again, I congratulate this team and St. Joan of Arc on this victory. I also want to acknowledge the coaches and managers for giving their time and effort to mentor these students. Together, your performance as a team demonstrates that anything is possible with perseverance and hard work.”
