Her Majesty’s life was dedicated to public service

Vaughan Mayor Maurizio Bevilacqua issued the following statement on the death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II:

“On behalf of the citizens of Vaughan, I express my heartfelt condolences to His Majesty The King and the Royal Family on the death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

“For seven decades, Her Majesty lived a life of service to others. She was our Head of State for nearly half of Canada’s existence as a country. Most of us have known no Head of State but her. She was the world’s longest reigning Monarch and the last surviving sovereign who had served in World War II. These are facts about what she did. But she touched many hearts throughout her reign. And that is who she was.

“I had the honour of meeting Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II on a number of occasions and felt her warmth, caring and compassionate spirit. Her Majesty had a remarkable ability to connect with people and make them feel special. She was a servant leader, dedicated and devoted to her calling and carried out her duty with honour, dignity and integrity.

“Flags at all City of Vaughan facilities will be lowered to half-mast until further notice in Her Majesty’s memory. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Royal Family, Canadians and communities throughout the Commonwealth of Nations.”
