Mayor Bevilacqua thanks City staff for running Maple Community Centre vaccination clinic
York Region Public
Health to resume day-to-day operations beginning today
The following statement
was issued by Vaughan Mayor Maurizio Bevilacqua:
“Since
the onset of the global COVID-19 pandemic, the City of Vaughan has worked
closely with all levels of government to monitor and respond to the evolving
challenge. From the beginning, we have employed every tool at our disposal to
combat this deadly virus. Our goal has always been to safeguard the health and
safety of our community.
“We
opened the Maple Community Centre as one of York Region’s COVID-19 vaccination
clinics in March 2021, where approximately 1,000 doses were administered per
day. The success of the vaccination clinic is the result of an ongoing
partnership between the City and York Region and high uptake from people who
live or work in Vaughan. In March, the City redeployed staff to help run the
day-to-day operations of the Maple Community Centre vaccine clinic. I want to
express my sincerest gratitude and appreciation to everyone who stepped up in
the line of duty to protect their fellow citizens. I was fortunate to be among
those vaccinated at the Maple Community Centre clinic and experienced
first-hand the Service Excellence demonstrated by Team Vaughan. The commitment
of our staff to safeguard the health and well-being of everyone who lives and
works here is truly admirable.
“Today,
York Region Public Health will assume the Maple Community Centre vaccination
clinic operations with a mission to vaccinate as many citizens as possible. I
want to thank everyone in our community who has already been vaccinated. More
than 82 per cent of York Region residents age 12 and over have received at
least one dose to date. Approximately 125,000 of those vaccines were
administered at Maple Community Centre and a temporary site at Father E. Bulfon
Community Centre, where more than 13,000 doses were administered. This
milestone signals that we have made tremendous progress and demonstrates what
can be achieved when we work together toward a common goal. The City remains
committed to working collaboratively with York Region to make municipal
facilities available for mobile pop-up clinics as needed.
“To
anyone who has not yet been vaccinated, I encourage you to get the vaccine to
protect yourself and others. Please visit york.ca/COVID19 for more information.
Now is a crucial time in our fight against COVID-19. Our journey is not over
yet. We all share the responsibility to reduce the spread of this virus. If we
continue to work together and support each other, I know we will emerge
stronger.”
