The following statement was issued by Vaughan Mayor Maurizio Bevilacqua after a special presentation during the Sept. 14 Committee of the Whole (1) meeting:

"I am pleased to announce that the City of Vaughan has received the 2021 Achievement of Excellence in Procurement Award from the National Procurement Institute. This prestigious award is presented annually to organizations that demonstrate excellence in innovation, professionalism, productivity, e-procurement and leadership.

"Vaughan's Procurement Services team provides goods, services, capital construction projects and equipment in a timely and cost-effective manner, using processes that reflect the highest values of integrity, accountability and responsibility. This is an important function as we continue to achieve the maximum value for every taxpayer dollar we are entrusted to manage. The City uses best practices to guarantee fiscal sustainability and credibility while safeguarding investments for the high-quality public services that residents, visitors and businesses rely on.

"The City of Vaughan proudly maintains one of the lowest and most competitive tax rates in the Greater Toronto Area. We take the management and stewardship of public funds very seriously and continue to demonstrate financial leadership and discipline.

"Procurement Services awarded 396 contracts in 2020, which were valued at $107.5 million. Staff are driving value for money through fair, accountable and competitive practices. Despite the global COVID-19 pandemic, the City's total procurement increased by $3.6 million in 2020 compared to 2019. This is an example of staff's commitment to Service Excellence and allows Vaughan to move ahead with securing the talent, tools and resources necessary to get shovels in the ground and crucial infrastructure projects underway.

"I want to extend my sincere gratitude and congratulations to the City's Procurement Services team. Their commitment to the highest ethical standards in procurement practices is fundamental to Vaughan's ongoing success."
