Award presented for Vaughan’s City-Wide Urban Design Guidelines

The following statement was issued by Vaughan Mayor Maurizio Bevilacqua after a special presentation during the Oct. 21 Council meeting:

“The City of Vaughan has received the 2020 Planning Excellence Award from the Canadian Institute of Planners for Vaughan’s City-Wide Urban Design Guidelines. This award recognizes exceptional planning projects that demonstrate innovation and make a meaningful impact on the development industry.

“Vaughan’s City-Wide Urban Design Guidelines is a roadmap to ensure we continue to build a world-class city that encompasses good urban design and public spaces that foster community well-being. Critical infrastructure projects have never been more relevant than they are today. Although COVID-19 persists, city-building in Vaughan continues. From establishing a multi-modal transportation system to help people get around, to improving park amenities that foster outdoor play and furthering residential and mixed-use developments in our downtown core, these significant city-building projects all contribute to Vaughan’s continued success. They will be places for our community to enjoy long after the pandemic has passed.

“In Vaughan, we remain dedicated to championing a healthier and greener environment that will elevate the quality of life for everyone who lives and works here. Our Development Planning team works tirelessly to achieve this goal through excellence in architectural design, cultivating public art and shared spaces, preserving heritage buildings and cultural landscapes, and strengthening our connection with the natural heritage network. Together, these elements contribute to a vibrant, healthy and prosperous city.

“This award demonstrates Vaughan’s dedication as a truly green city to build safe, accessible and sustainable spaces for future generations. I am pleased to offer my sincere congratulations to the Development Planning department for their hard work, passion and dedication. This project serves as a wonderful example of our ongoing commitment to Service Excellence as we continue to shape an inclusive and welcoming community for all.”
