City’s 2019 Canada Day won Best Social Media Campaign and Vaughan Celebrates 2019 Winterfest recognized with Top 100 Award

The following statement was issued by Vaughan Mayor Maurizio Bevilacqua after a special presentation during the Nov. 3 Committee of the Whole meeting:

I want to congratulate the Events team in Recreation Services for receiving two awards from Festivals and Events Ontario. The City has received an award for Best Social Media Campaign for the 2019 Canada Day event, and we have been recognized with the Top 100 Award for Vaughan Celebrates 2019 Winterfest.

“The City’s Events team curates a robust program that increases in popularity each year and continues to invite guests to experience the best of what Vaughan has to offer.

“Vaughan’s signature Canada Day celebration is one of the many award-winning events hosted by the City. It is a time for friends, families and neighbours to share love and patriotism for this great nation we call home. Last year’s free, fun-filled event did not disappoint. With live entertainment and activities, including a headline performance by Juno Award-winning MAGIC!, citizens and visitors were treated to a celebration deserving of our country’s 152nd birthday.

“In Vaughan, we recognize the increasingly important role of social media as an accessible platform to engage with members of our community. That is especially true as we continue to respond to COVID-19. I would like to say a special thank you to the Creative Services team for their help in supporting this campaign.

“I would also like to share my gratitude and appreciation to our Events team for identifying creative and innovative opportunities in response to the global pandemic. This year marked an incredible milestone in our city’s history as we celebrated the first-ever virtual Canada Day in Vaughan. Although we could not gather physically this summer, staff innovated to provide a unique way of celebrating our Canadian pride together, virtually. It was a wonderful celebration of our city, province and country.

“In 2019, more than 8,000 residents and visitors came together to mark the 30th annual Vaughan Celebrates Winterfest. The award-winning event is a cherished tradition in our city that offers the chance to get outside, make lasting memories and take part in a celebration that is uniquely Vaughan. Guests were treated to first-class entertainment, family-friendly activities, a free pancake breakfast, a kid’s midway zone with mechanical rides, inflatables and much more.

“I want to offer my sincere congratulations to the administration, particularly, the Events team in Recreation Services on this well-deserved recognition. Thank you for all your hard work in organizing these remarkable annual events that have helped to raise the profile of our city.
