Mayor Maurizio Bevilacqua has issued the following statement.

I was pleased to host Her Honour the Honourable Elizabeth Dowdeswell, Lieutenant Governor of Ontario, as we welcomed 30 new Canadians in a citizenship ceremony at Vaughan City Hall today. It was a privilege to be a part of this special moment in the lives of the men, women and children who, in a very public way, pledged their commitment to Canada. To them, and all new Canadians across the country, I offer my sincere congratulations.

Every new Canadian brings with them a personal story of the journey that brought them here. As Canadians, we appreciate this diversity as well as the values of democracy, human rights and the rule of law which defines our compassionate and caring spirit. We understand that being a Canadian comes with the responsibility to participate and contribute to our collective communities.

Today is especially meaningful because it is also Canada Day, a fitting occasion to welcome new citizens, celebrate our country’s 149th birthday, and express gratitude for living in the best and most beautiful country in the world. Happy Canada Day!
