Vaughan reaches contract with CUPE Local 905
City
signs four-year deal with union that represents hundreds of employees
The
City of Vaughan and the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) Local 905
reached a contract settlement that was ratified by Vaughan Council on June 28
and the CUPE membership the following day. This deal represents an important
milestone in achieving Term of Council priorities and continuing to support the
City’s focus on Service Excellence.
As one of the fastest-growing municipalities in the GTA,
the City of Vaughan is committed to investing in the community’s future and
building on the citizen experience to provide value to residents. The terms of the agreement include wage increases of
1.5 per cent for the first two years (2016 and 2017), 1.625 per cent for 2018
and 1.75 per cent for 2019. This deal does not impact the approved budget for
Vaughan and it adheres to the tax target set out by Council. By reaching a
settlement, the City can ensure continued service to residents without
disruption for the next four years.
Changes to benefits were included in the contract to address employee needs while supporting Vaughan’s commitment to fiscal responsibility. As part of the City’s refreshed strategic plan that was implemented in 2015, a focus was placed on fostering a shared vision and culture of service excellence within all City services and operations.
