City’s community centres, pools and splash pads will keep you cool

The summer promised to be a hot one and this week is no exception as a heat warning is in effect for Vaughan and much of southern Ontario.

The City’s indoor pools and splash pads offer a great way to stay cool. The Thornhill Outdoor Pool and all of the City’s indoor pools are open. Vaughan has 17 outdoor splash pads which are open daily from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Vaughan’s 10 community centres offer air-conditioned public spaces, washrooms and change rooms as well as water-bottle filling stations. They will be open during regularly scheduled hours. A full list of community centres and their hours of operation can be found at vaughan.ca/recreation.

The City is reminding residents there are many other ways to beat the heat:

  • Remain indoors in cool, well-ventilated areas
  • Wear loose-fitting, light-coloured clothing made of breathable fabric
  • If you do not have air conditioning in your home, go to places that do, including shopping malls and  local libraries
  • When using fans, keep a window or door open to bring in cooler air from outside
Vaughan Animal Services is also advising people to never leave a pet in a car or unattended outside on hot days.
