Transition underway for the 2022-2026 Term of Council

Following the recent 2022 Municipal Election, today, Vaughan Mayor Maurizio Bevilacqua welcomed incoming Mayor-elect Steven Del Duca to City Hall to mark the beginning of the transition period for the new Term of Council. City Manager Nick Spensieri also took part in the first of a series of briefings about critical city-building priorities for Vaughan's elected officials.

Mayor-elect Del Duca will be sworn in alongside all Members of Council on Tuesday, Nov. 15, during the inauguration of the 2022-2026 Term of Council. The occasion marks the start of the Committee and Council meeting schedule, which continues throughout November with in-person and virtual attendance options for Members of Council and the public. Public consultation remains a vital part of the planning and city-building process. QUOTES

"I have dedicated 34 years of my life to serving the exceptional citizens of the city of Vaughan. When I was first elected Mayor back in 2010, we didn't have a hospital, a university, a subway, a 900-acre park, a downtown core or 70,000 additional new jobs. By working together, we have transformed our city and achieved great success. Residents are proud to call Vaughan their home. Today, I had the honour of welcoming my friend and Mayor-elect, Steven Del Duca, to City Hall to begin the transition process. He was warmly received by City Manager Nick Spensieri and the Senior Leadership Team - Executive. Long before Voting Day, I directed the City’s administration to prepare for this important transition period. Our newly elected Mayor, Council and all the public servants who will contribute to the 2022-2026 Term of Council are stewards of our thriving city. I wish them all well. I know that they will be guided by values, principles and beliefs that will propel our city to reach new and unprecedented heights. The state of our city is strong. We have a solid foundation upon which a bright and promising future can be built. As I prepare to embark on the next chapter of my life, I want to express my sincerest gratitude to everyone who has been part of our city's successful transformation. I wish Mayor-elect Steven Del Duca much success. I know that he possesses the human qualities to lead this city. I am confident that he will be supported by a committed Council and administration. The residents of Vaughan expect stable governance and effective leadership. I know that their call will be answered."
- Mayor Maurizio Bevilacqua

"I want to thank Mayor Bevilacqua for his dedication to ensuring an immediate and seamless transition as we plan for the new Term of Council. I am dedicated to building on our city's continued success with honour, integrity and a spirit of co-operation. I wish to congratulate my colleagues who will join me over the next four years in fulfilling our shared commitment to addressing the priorities of Vaughan residents, families and business owners. The ideas, perspectives and voices of every Member of Council are critical to achieving real results for the citizens we proudly serve. Together, we will deliver quality public services while maintaining fiscal responsibility and competitive property tax rates. We will enhance our community's quality of life, strengthen our economy by tackling gridlock, and, ultimately, move Vaughan forward for the better."
- Mayor-elect Steven Del Duca

"On behalf of the entire Corporation of the City of Vaughan, I want to congratulate Mayor-elect Del Duca and all Members of Council who will help lead our community over the next four years. In addition, I want to recognize and thank Mayor Bevilacqua for his outstanding commitment and dedication to advancing Vaughan's priorities throughout his many years of public service, for overseeing an effective transition, and for his unwavering support of Vaughan staff. Finally, I want to recognize City Clerk Todd Coles and the entire team who led the planning and management of the 2022 Municipal Election to ensure residents were informed, empowered and able to shape the future of our thriving community. Vaughan's administration looks forward to working closely with Mayor-elect Del Duca and Council over the next four years."
- Nick Spensieri, City Manager
