Submit fun, ‘winter-ful’ names for Vaughan’s snowplows now and vote later on the winners

You know Dasher and Dancer and Prancer and Vixen – but what names best suit the City of Vaughan’s fleet of snowplows? While our winter operations are ‘snow’ laughing matter, this is your chance to have a bit of fun and ‘Name the Plow!’

Ahead of the 2023/24 winter season, we will be naming 10 snowplows – but we can’t do it alone! We’re calling on Vaughan residents to get creative and come up with ideas for our most loved winter maintenance equipment.

Now until Sunday, May 14 at 11:59 p.m., visit vaughan.ca/snow to submit your snowplow name idea(s). Have fun with it, but remember to keep your suggestions family-friendly! Try including words such as snow, plow or blizzard, or perhaps you have a pun or rhyme in mind. Be creative, and keep the names short and sweet.

After the submission period closes, the City will pick the best 20 names and you’ll have the opportunity to vote for your favourite from Wednesday, June 14 to Wednesday, Aug. 2. Who knows, your suggestion may be best in ‘snow’!

The City will then reveal the winning snowplow names in October before the next winter season – your submission could appear on one of 10 snowplows! Stay tuned for more details.

The Name the Plow initiative is fun, but Vaughan takes snow-clearing operations seriously. The City provides residents with a high level of snow-removal services. Whether it’s reducing ice on roads, removing snow from roads or clearing it from paths, sidewalks and windrows, the City’s crews strive to ensure residents and visitors can travel safely despite the weather.

The City has a fleet of more than 230 vehicles – including salter/snowplow units, windrow machines, sidewalk machines, pickup trucks equipped with plows and salters, cul-de-sac-clearing machines and anti-icing units – to ensure citizens are provided with high-quality winter services. The City uses this equipment to clear and maintain more than 2,200 lane-kilometres of roads and over 1,200 kilometres of sidewalks and park walkways.
