Community celebrates official opening of Chatfield District Park

Residents and visitors have a new and exciting gathering place to get their play on – Chatfield District Park in Ward 3. Whether it be sliding, swinging, splashing, climbing or crawling, the new park offers plenty of space to run around, relax and enjoy.

Located at 100 Lawford Rd., the 14-acre (5.7 hectare) park includes junior and senior playgrounds with slides, swings, climbing nets, crawl spaces, monkey bars, spinners and more. Play on the soccer field, basketball courts, ball hockey park, lit tennis courts and softball diamond. Additional features and play zones include a splash pad, skate park, greenspaces, shade structure, parking, and accessible swings, washrooms and change room.

Aligning with the City’s commitment to environmental sustainability, the park’s rubberized safety surface is made from 100 per cent post-consumer recycled materials. Playground structure components are also partially made from pre-consumer recycled materials. Chatfield Park is also accessible for all, with a rubber floor, ground level play components and accessible swings.

To officially celebrate the opening, Mayor Maurizio Bevilacqua and Members of Council joined the community for a ribbon-cutting ceremony, entertainment and light refreshments.

The addition of Chatfield District Park continues Vaughan’s tradition of creating welcoming outdoor spaces that bring the community together, are inclusive and offer enhanced experiences promoting healthier habits. This development is also consistent with Council’s priorities to promote active, safe and diverse communities, as outlined in the 2018-2022 Term of Council Service Excellence Strategic Plan.
