The City of Vaughan’s 2012 Spring & Summer Recreation Guide will be delivered to Vaughan homes by January 31.

The redesigned spring and summer guide is more user-friendly, colour-coded, with easy-to-read schedules. It features registered programs in creative, culinary and performing and education/language arts; health and wellness; science and technology and sports and swimming for all ages and abilities. A series of new holistic workshops is being offered including Family Medicine Chest, Natural Healthy Baby, and Spring into Health, in addition to several other new general programs such as Can Bike, Living into Watercolour and Simply Music for children and adults and Tutoring for persons with disabilities.

Before and after school programs, March break camps, as well as pay-as-you-go and membership options for aquafitness, swimming, sports, skating, shinny hockey and fitness can be found in the guide.
During the summer school break, children and youth ages three to 16 can choose from over 50 different one- and two-week camps, now conveniently sorted by category such as outdoor adventure, recreational, sports, visual and performing arts, science and computer, leadership, special needs and water adventures. New summer day camps include Camp Aqua Star and Canoe & Kayak Camp.

The guide has information on the City’s family-friendly outdoor amenities, including parks, splash pads, walking and bicycle paths, hiking trails, sports fields, playgrounds, basketball and tennis courts and the Thornhill Outdoor Pool. Also highlighted are community events, which feature free activities, including: Vaughan Youth Week and Asian Heritage Month in May; Accessibility Awareness Week, Recreation and Parks, Italian Heritage Month and Seniors’ Months in June; Canada Day Concert and Concerts in the Park throughout the summer.

Other information featured in the guide includes City Playhouse Theatre productions, community group listings and seasonal recreation employment and volunteer opportunities. Special promotions and incentives, such as half-price recreational swims for children and youth, monthly prize draws and complimentary fitness, swim and sport passes can be found in the Your Community section of the guide.

For general and aquatic programs, residents can register for both spring and summer sessions at the same time.
