A new vision for Weston Road and Highway 7 area
Vaughan to take a collaborative approach to future growth and development to create an inclusive, connected and future-friendly community
The City
of Vaughan is looking to the community to help envision the future of the
Weston Road and Highway 7 area within the next 20 years and beyond. There is
room for every idea, opportunity and possibility to be discussed — including
suggestions for transportation; shopping and amenities; arts and cultural
spaces; business, employment and retail options; community building and much
more. To kick start discussions for this new vision, an interactive open house
will take place on Nov. 7 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Toscana Banquet and Conference Centre.
Cities
are dynamic places and Vaughan is no exception. The city is a growing and
thriving urban centre. Civic participation is fundamental for understanding the
evolving needs and desires of the growing community, and public consultation is
an important driver in the city-building process. The open house is part of a
first phase of consultation and is intended to be an immersive experience with
presentations, visual displays and panel exchanges. A draft vision and set of
principles based on input already collected at this early stage will also be
unveiled and will help shape the conversation.
Discussions
with citizens and stakeholders will help formulate key principles for the
development of the area, and define the elements needed for successful growth,
such as open spaces and parks, a variety of housing and destination options,
placemaking, new roads and transportation routes, as well as any further
infrastructure requirements. Feedback will help inform a three-phase study to
create a planning strategy — or Secondary Plan — for the Weston Road and
Highway 7 area. Light refreshments will be provided.
