New walkway provides residents with easy access to the park and community centre

The construction of the North Thornhill District Park walkway demonstrates the City of Vaughan’s commitment to enhancing the quality of life for all citizens. The project was identified by the local community, including Ward 4 Councillor Sandra Yeung Racco, to build a path connecting the park and North Thornhill Community Centre for residents and visitors.

In honour of this milestone, join Members of Council for a photo opportunity to highlight the new walkway on Wednesday, July 17 at 7 p.m. Bennie and the Jets – A Tribute to Elton John will also be performing that evening as part of the Vaughan Celebrates Concerts in the Park series.

Vaughan’s state-of-the-art North Thornhill District Park brings families, friends and neighbours together. The area features splash pads, water-play zones and greenspace for residents to enjoy the outdoors. The park connects to North Thornhill Community Centre, a recreation facility with a swimming pool, fitness centre and programs for people of all ages and abilities.

This walkway investment aligns with the City’s commitment to build active, safe and diverse communities that are welcoming and promote healthy, active living as outlined in the 2018-2022 Term of Council Service Excellence Strategic Plan.

“As elected officials, it is our responsibility to listen to our residents and strive to improve the quality of life in our emerging world-class city. The new walkway at North Thornhill District Park is an example of this commitment. The Ward 4 community raised the need to have easier access between their local park and community centre, and, with the investment of the walkway, residents will now have an enhanced experience. Together, we will continue to ensure that Vaughan’s parks and community centres are inclusive, welcoming and safe spaces for everyone to enjoy.”
- Mayor Maurizio Bevilacqua
