P.A. Day fun with Vaughan!

Enjoy in-person or virtual programs on Friday, Nov. 19

Are you wondering what to do with your kids for the upcoming P.A. Day on Friday, Nov. 19? The City of Vaughan is here to help by offering in-person P.A. Day programs. Register today! Programs are open to children aged six to 12 years old at select community centres.

Programs include:

School’s out! (for ages six to 12 years old)
Enjoy a day of activities including games, sports, arts and crafts, outdoor play (weather permitting) and special events while making new friends.
Locations: Al Palladini, North Thornhill and Vellore Village community centres

Nature wonders (for ages six to 12 years old with special needs)
Explore the natural wonders of the great outdoors – colours, plants, animals, sights, sounds and smells – through seasonal sensory activities and play in a scenic environment. Siblings are welcome.
Location: Vellore Village Community Centre

Hands on robotics: beginner workshop (for ages six to nine years old)
Build LEGO® robots based on one of these themes: animals (creatures of all kinds) or transportation (cars/vehicles). Grasp concepts on building structures, sensors and gears, and learn fun facts about the robots along the way.
Location: Maple Community Centre

Masks are mandatory when entering, exiting and travelling throughout the facility, and while watching and/or waiting for participants in programs. Masks must be worn while participating in programs, except during physical activity.

Recreational swimming and skating will also be available at select community centres, as well as bowling at Maple Community Centre. Pre-registration is required at vaughan.perfectmind.com and opens four days and two hours in advance of the time block.

Proof of vaccination
As of Sept. 22, 2021, Ontarians are required to be fully vaccinated (PDF) with proof of vaccination along with ID to access certain public settings and facilities – including community and fitness centres. The enhanced vaccine certificate with an official QR code is available for download, making it easier, more secure and convenient for individuals to provide proof of vaccination where required to do so.

The following proof of identification is acceptable for those aged 18 years and older (note: photo ID is not required) –
  • Birth certificate
  • Citizenship card
  • Driver’s licence
  • Government (Ontario or other) issued identification card, including health card
  • Indian Status Card/Indigenous Membership Card
  • Passport
  • Permanent Resident card

In accordance with York Region Public Health and a Letter of Instruction, effective Friday, Oct. 1, all individuals aged 12 years and older who are entering an indoor municipal recreation facility, where organized sports are played and/or practiced, must provide identification and proof of being fully vaccinated against COVID-19 or a valid medical exemption. The education period has ended, and enforcement of this direction has begun. In-person campers aged 12 years old must comply with this directive.

The following proof of identification is acceptable for those aged 12 to 17 years:
  • Documentation issued by an institution or public body provided it includes their name and date of birth
  • Examples include:
    • Health card
    • Library card
    • Student ID

Individuals with a medical exemption are required to present identification and appropriate written documentation from a medical doctor or registered nurse stating the individual is exempt for a medical reason and the time period for the medical reason.

Virtual P.A. Day programs
A series of virtual programs, live streamed via Zoom, will also be available for children aged four to 17 years old.

Programs include:
Self-defence (for ages seven to 12 years old)
Explore traditional karate-do, kobudo and self-defence, and learn basic punching and blocking techniques.

Pipe cleaner crafts (for ages six to 10 years old)
Learn basic techniques and twist simple pipe cleaners into beautiful pieces of art such as insects, flowers, animals and other cool things.

Brain games challenge (for ages seven to 12 years old)
Challenge your brain during an hour of riddles, brain teasers and quizzes to keep your mind sharp.

Cartoon animation workshop (for ages seven to 11 years old)
Learn the basics of animation design and incorporate the animating principle of “squash and stretch” to experience what a great animator you can become.

Virtual reality avatars workshop (for ages nine to 12 years old)
Learn how to create high resolution, textured characters that can be seen with VR devices and/or use in animations and video games.

Mechanical engineering workshop: build a race car! (for ages four to seven years old)
Explore the principles of speed and acceleration by building your very own race car.

Sustainability city workshop: Minecraft greenhouse design (for ages eight to 13 years old)
Build your own automated greenhouse using Minecraft. Apply engineering design processes and electrical engineering concepts to explore the theme of urban gardening and green spaces.

Roblox game design building and obby course workshop (for ages seven to 12 years old)
Design an obby obstacle course using Roblox Studio to share and play with your friends and family.

Olympic Stars (for ages 10 to 17 years old with special needs)
Exercises and fun game to boost endurance, strength, flexibility and balance.

Virtual programs run for one to three hours. A Zoom link to your program will be provided in your confirmation upon registering. Parent/guardian assistance may be required. Prepared supply kits are included in the cost of select programs and will be made available for curbside pick-up at a community centre.
