Take the online survey to help inform Vaughan’s plan for future pickleball courts

Do you want to swing paddles and hit wiffleballs on a new pickleball court in your area in the future? As recommended in Vaughan’s 2018 Active Together Master Plan, the City is conducting a Pickleball Study to assess demand and evaluate the feasibility of retrofitting some existing tennis courts to make them compatible for pickleball play. To get involved in the conversation and share your thoughts, take the online survey at vaughan.ca/pickleball.

Pickleball is a popular, emerging sport in Canada. As a paddleball sport, it combines elements of tennis, badminton, and ping-pong. It is played with a paddle and a wiffleball (a plastic ball with holes) on a badminton-sized court with a slightly modified tennis net. It can also be played on a tennis court with line painting modifications. The sport can be enjoyed as doubles or singles and by all ages and skill levels. Visit the Pickleball Canada website to learn more about the sport.

As part of the Pickleball Study, the City will evaluate the demand for court space and determine opportunities to install pickleball facilities throughout the community.

The City of Vaughan values constructive dialogue with citizens that is open, transparent, accessible, and inclusive. Public engagement is vital to the success of this project. Residents are encouraged to get involved and join the conversation by taking the Pickleball Player Survey to help identify best practices, ideal locations and preferred court features. The online survey is available at vaughan.ca/pickleball and will be open until Monday, March 15.

In addition to the online survey, citizens can also share comments, feedback and ideas with the project team directly by emailing parksplanning@vaughan.ca or calling Access Vaughan at 905-832-2281.

Following completion of the Pickleball Study, a report will be brought forward to Council with an update and recommendations arising from community input. The findings will be assessed and integrated into the Active Together Master Plan update in 2023.
