Take the survey to help develop a parks and wayfinding strategy for Vaughan’s downtown core

The City of Vaughan is creating a vibrant centre for public life within its downtown core – the Vaughan Metropolitan Centre (VMC). By undertaking the VMC Parks and Wayfinding Master Plan, the City will guide the timely development of parks and open spaces in the VMC, in addition to creating a signage strategy to make the area easier to navigate. Collecting feedback from the community is vital to the success of this plan. Visit vaughan.ca/VMCParks to participate in the online survey and join the conversation.

The VMC is the largest and most significant development project in Vaughan’s history – and it is transforming quickly. As residential development applications continue to exceed targets, in addition to an expanding workforce and visitor and commuter numbers, there is a need to build out a public space that is innovative, accessible, sustainable and safe, and fosters connectivity, physical activity, health and wellness for everyone.

Targeted for completion in 2021, the VMC Parks and Wayfinding Master Plan will develop a design and implementation plan for emerging parks and open spaces. It will inform how these public spaces guide development, how they can be advanced over time, and how opportunities to enhance natural features, locate public art, improve multi-modal mobility and increase the area’s vibrancy can be incorporated. A comprehensive signage and wayfinding system will assist residents and visitors in moving through the VMC, in addition to easily finding the local businesses, key destinations and institutions in the area.

Establishing a network of high-quality parks and open spaces will be an essential part of the VMC’s infrastructure – and community input is needed. Citizens are encouraged to join the conversation that is helping to shape the future of the VMC by participating in this online survey. The survey will take approximately 13 minutes to complete and will be available at vaughan.ca/VMCParks until November 4, 2020.

The City recognizes the importance of protecting citizens from the global COVID-19 pandemic, while also continuing to move the City forward. Public consultation remains an important part of the planning and city-building process. This online survey is just one of the ways residents can have their say until in-person meetings are permitted.
