Community asked to share feedback on current structure and possible forgiveness program

The City of Vaughan is committed to providing water and wastewater rates that are sustainable, fair and affordable, while also sufficient for funding the cost of operating and maintaining Vaughan’s infrastructure. As part of this commitment, the City is undertaking a comprehensive review of the current rates and rate structure for the delivery of water and wastewater services to Vaughan residents and businesses.

This study will provide recommendations for sustaining the City’s water and wastewater infrastructure and delivery of services over the next 10 years and explore the possibility of introducing a one-time forgiveness program to provide financial relief for abnormally high and unintentional water bills due to unexpected circumstances. The study is expected to be complete by September 2020.

In response to the global COVID-19 pandemic, the City of Vaughan continues to take steps to support the community. To help ease immediate financial challenges for residents and business owners, Mayor Maurizio Bevilacqua and Members of Council voted to cancel the planned 2020 water and wastewater rate increases.

The City of Vaughan is committed to delivering Service Excellence, as outlined in the Council-approved 2018-2022 Term of Council Service Excellence Strategic Plan. Exploring the opportunities to enhance the current rate structure and introduce a one-time relief program reinforces the City’s commitment to Operational Performance, a strategic priority which focuses on fostering a culture of continuous improvement by supporting innovation and investing in infrastructure that elevates the quality of life in Vaughan.
