PSA: Should provincially licensed retail cannabis stores be allowed to operate in Vaughan?

Attend a Special Committee of the Whole meeting at Vaughan City Hall on Jan. 21 to share your thoughts with Council

The City of Vaughan encourages members of the community to attend a Special Committee of the Whole meeting on Monday, Jan. 21 at 7 p.m. at Vaughan City Hall to discuss cannabis.

Residents will have the opportunity to share their thoughts with the Mayor and Members of Council about whether or not provincially licensed retail cannabis stores should be allowed to operate in the City of Vaughan. Hard copies of the deputation form will be provided at the working session.

Following the conclusion of discussions at this meeting, Council will vote on the matter. The provincial government has imposed a deadline on all municipalities to decide by Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2019. If a decision is not made by then, municipalities will by default permit licensed retail cannabis stores to operate.

Effective Oct. 17, 2018, recreational cannabis became legal across Canada and available for purchase through the province’s online store. The City of Vaughan remains committed to protecting the health, safety and well-being of all residents and continues to review the Ontario government’s legislation regarding the sale, distribution and consumption of recreational cannabis in the province. Frequently asked questions on this topic are available on the City’s website.
