PSA: Vaughan is hiring school crossing guards
Help keep students and crosswalks safe with this
rewarding job
School crossing guards are an important part of
the city of Vaughan community. These dedicated individuals work every school
day to assist children walking across intersections throughout Vaughan. The
City is currently hiring crossing guards for the 2020/21 school year.
Being
a school crossing guard is not only a rewarding occupation, it also offers a flexible
work schedule. A typical day for a crossing guard includes the following:
- There may be up to three shifts per day – one in the morning, one at lunch and one in the afternoon – however, most locations only have two shifts per day.
- The shift times vary depending on location and range between 35 minutes to 90 minutes.
- There are crosswalk locations in Concord (PDF), Kleinburg (PDF), Maple (PDF), Thornhill (PDF) and Woodbridge (PDF). You may also view a map of all crossing guard locations in Vaughan.
With more than 112 crosswalk locations
throughout Vaughan, both permanent and standby crossing guards are needed to service
all locations. The City recruits, trains and hires crossing guards, conducts
pedestrian studies, selects crosswalk locations and installs appropriate
signage and pavement markings.
Ensuring citizen and crossing guard
safety during COVID-19
In response to
COVID-19, the City continues to implement measures to ensure the health and
safety of all citizens, including school crossing guards and the children
travelling to and from school. As a result, the following precautions are being
taken:
- training on COVID-19-related procedures and safety measures for crossing guards
- providing masks for crossing guards
- requiring the completion of the Province's COVID-19 self-assessment questionnaire before reporting to work to ensure they are symptom-free
