As the city
of Vaughan continues to grow, an update is required to the City’s existing parkland
dedication policies, which were initially created in 2012. The update will help
manage growth, align practices with current trends and develop new guidelines
for maintaining and expanding the City’s public parkland system – including how
the City receives or purchases different types of outdoor green spaces. As
recommended in Vaughan’s 2018 Active
Together Master Plan, the Parkland Dedication Guidelines are
anticipated to be finalized later this year by the City’s Parks Infrastructure
Planning and Development department to ensure Vaughan’s existing park spaces – and
any new parkland areas – continue to meet the demands of the community for
current and future generations.
The City
values the voice of the public and is dedicated to having constructive dialogue
with the community that is open, transparent, accessible and inclusive. As
public engagement is vital to the development and success of this project, the
City encourages citizens to join the conversation – virtually. Until Monday,
May 3, visit vaughan.ca/ParklandDedication to participate
in a 15-minute survey to help the City understand the community’s needs for
parklands within Vaughan.
In addition
to the online survey, share comments, feedback and ideas directly with the
project team by emailing parksplanning@vaughan.ca or calling
Access Vaughan at 905-832-2281.
All feedback
will be reviewed and compiled into a final report, which will be brought
forward to Council at a later date. These findings will also be integrated into
applicable policy and future parkland by-laws.
